We had rain – after 60+ days of sunshine. The weather gods looked down upon the wheatens and said this Irish breed needs to be cool and in their natural environment. In spite of the drizzle we managed to eat hamburgers, have our ice cream eating contest (dogs only), our costume contest, a scent following game and more. Thanks to all the participants and a big thanks to Marianne Berkey who took on the bulk of the organizing this year. Below is a pic of the costume contest participants (Sushi dog Finnegan took first) and the table with the silent auction set-up and the food. Until next year!

We have reserved the picnic shelter at Mundy Park in Coquitlam on Hillcrest Drive. This park is a beautiful mostly second-growth forest with fields and ponds. Off-leash on most trails until 10 am so if that’s your thing you can excercise your dog before the picnic or after 10am most trails are on-leash and there are many kms of trails with loops of all lengths. The picnic area has a covered shelter and open tables under large trees. There is a childrens playground nearby (50m away). This is a pot-luck and we will have games, costume contest, prizes, and our annual silent auction to raise funds for the club!
THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING.
Is anyone in or near Mission, BC looking to adopt? If so, check out Phoenix via the link below. He’s an 8-year-old Wheaten Terrier who is sweet and playful, but does have a bite history. He’s with a rescue in Mission called SAINTS. SAINTS pre- and post adopt policies would apply as he will remain a SAINTS dog under their protection umbrella for the rest of his life in case he ever needs assistance again.
THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING. We have a small amount of additional information to share but contacting SAINTS would be your best option if you are interested. All info can be found via the link below:
If you click the link and the listing don’t show up, that means that this dog has been adopted.
A well attended event – over thirty folks and a good number of wheatens enjoyed the warm, pleasant day in the park. Picnic fun included the costume contest – there were some memorable ones this year. Super girl, Geisha, RCMP officer, a cheerleader, a butterfly to name a few. Our silent auction raised a record $400 – well done participants The funds will go into our club bank account and be waiting for our next donation to wheaten health or rescue. Thanks Marianne for helping keep the auction on track.
Special thanks to Judy for having Norma Jean do a demo of scentwork. Some dogs were able to give it a try afterwards – always fun! Really helped make our picnic special
The ice cream eating contest was a hit and Leigh did a great job organizing, and finding and distributing prizes. Marianne organized the musical sit and the dogs and humans had a hoot. Again prizes were handed out – thanks Marianne! Thanks to Jerry who cooked many a burger and hot dogs. Participants brought their own potluck offerings – thanks for joining in everyone – makes it easier on the organizer and is always nice to see the variety of food that appears. We were tempted by Lisa’s cupcakes, beautifully decorated and displayed. I saw a big lovely looking salad, someone brought some drinks – and it all worked well together. What a team!
